Nostalgia Alert: Celebrating 30 Years of Classic Fighting Games!

Can you believe it? Legendary fighting games like Street Fighter, Capcom vs. Marvel, and more have hit the big 3-0! These are the games that transported us back to the golden era of arcades, providing both a lunchtime escape and post-work showdowns. In this blog post, we're taking a trip down memory lane to relive those epic one-on-one battles against fellow gamers, often with complete strangers on the next arcade machine. Remember the good old days when we had those massive 40-50-inch screens and dedicated seats for our gaming extravaganzas? Oh, how times have changed!

Once upon a time, it was all about the immersive arcade experience. You'd stroll into the arcade after a long day of work, drop a few tokens into your favorite game, and face off against whoever happened to be waiting their turn. There was something undeniably electrifying about the intense competition and the adrenaline rush of going toe-to-toe with another human being right beside you. These classic fighting games had a unique charm that made every match memorable.

Fast forward to today, and the gaming landscape has evolved drastically. With the rise of consoles like the PS5, the gaming experience has shifted from the bustling arcade atmosphere to the comfort of our homes. While it's undeniably convenient to fire up your console and play from the couch, it's also true that the face-to-face interactions with strangers have become a thing of the past.

Nowadays, the multiplayer experience often revolves around connecting with friends online or engaging in couch co-op with family members if you're lucky. It's a different kind of fun, to be sure, but there's no denying the nostalgia we feel for those arcade showdowns with "player two" sitting just inches away.

So, here's to the classics that shaped our gaming journeys, reminding us of the days when we'd gather around those enormous screens, joysticks in hand, and prove our mettle in the heat of battle. While we may have bid farewell to those arcade glory days, the memories and friendships forged during those epic fights will always hold a special place in our hearts. #thoseWereTheDays

There is no such thing as a bad student only a bad teacher

I have given ad-hoc tution on Java programming at this fast food restaurant A&W at PJ which unfortunately has now closed down.

It's memorable to me because I had 2 students who failed their term exam and were retaking the subject. Students are weak in the subject which is not uncommon and not surprising because it was something very foreign to them. I was surprised when I saw how fast they understood and absorbed the material I gave them. Surprised because from experience, I know such students do not fail subjects. These were A plus calibre students! So the only conclusion was their teacher was really bad. Skipped over teaching some key topics essential for the exam or just presented them poorly.

This experience resonated deeply with the 1984 Karate Kid's powerful quote: "There is no such thing as a bad student, only a bad teacher." I am very average and definitely do not claim to an exceptional teacher or anything but it goes to show a bad teacher can lead students astray.''

Oh, both these students scored A's during their retake exams, something I had not a single doubt would be the result (which is saying a lot since I can't say that for my other students)

FIIDO D2s test ride

Fixed flat tyre

Tube RM 35. Labor RM 15. Actually could have gone for the regular tube which is cheaper at RM 16. But since I don't know the difference the more expensive one must be better!

Got an electric bike

Happy got the Fiido d2s today. Tested and working fine. Was a pleasure riding smoothly 10-15kmh around my taman for more than 10-20 minutes then suddenly felt the back tyres go flat. Bad luck. Must have hit a nail or something. Luckily bike shop nearby. Dismounted and felt my trousers tear. Big hole. Double bad luck. So cancel repair tyre and pushed the bike all the way home (a good 15 minutes walk). Reach home just before heavy rains hit. Now waiting for the rain to subside so can push it back to the shop to fix the tyres.

Digital Drawing Tablet

With more time to spare, I like to go back to my old hobbies like drawing. This pen tablet was way too expensive way back in 2018. Now it's simply very affordable. Just ordered the 12" and should be arriving in a couple of days..

Only DigitalOcean for me

My first post after 4 years!!! Anyway, after cancelling everything I have under GoDaddy, my web hosting of choice is now DigitalOcean. It's so far the best performance wise as well as price wise. As for domain, my go to is Name.com. I have to say after all these years using them, I have no regrests.

I like DigitalOcean because they are no stickler for payment like Exabytes who starts closing down your website  if your payment is late a day or two. I have been late over a month and the site is still up. Not that it's on purpose but during Covid, I had been absent minded to check.

Why I am cancelling all I have under GoDaddy.com

I used to be a long time customer of GoDaddy. Over the years I have been cancelling all my hosted websites with them and my domain hosting too.

Finally I only have one domain left with them and I will be transferring that out to Name.com too.

Why?

For one reason. They stopped supporting me via email. You have to make a call to get support which resulted me in not getting the support I needed to reverse a double charge they made on my hosting.

That's just a couple of hundred RM but I am pissed they did not take the effort to reverse it.

Best Weekly Prepaid in Malaysia

This is my personal experience so if you find a better or cheaper alternative please leave a comment.

So far it seems DiGi and Maxis Hotlink are outdoing each other in the prepaid Internet area.

Let's compare just the weekly prepaid plans. (1Gb overall + 1Gb daily bonus for a week - RM 10):

Personally it's pretty close both of them but DiGi edges Maxis Hotlink because although both offer same amount for their weekly internet (1 Gb) but it's their daily 1Gb bonus that is interesting. Hotlink lets you use the 1Gb bonus any time but limits it to only an hour a day and DiGi lets you use that bonus 1GB between 1pm-7pm. For that alone DiGi is most definitely more flexible.

SJCAM SJ7 from Lazada

Getting this as it is half the price of the best GoPros out there but it can match it in many areas.

Also, this camera consistently earns high praises from different online reviews. Here is one:-
